We've been been hard at work incorporating the new CAS item types into our practice exams for MAS-I and MAS-II! See how they work in our new article.
The Coaching Actuaries team is excited to announce significant changes to MAS-I and MAS-II. We’ve introduced four new item types that are directly aligned with the recent updates from the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS).
Our goal is to ensure that you feel prepared and confident for these exams. That’s why our practice exams simulate the real testing experience as closely as possible. These new item types are an essential part of that plan!
One important note: Just like on the real exam, no partial credit is awarded for any of these item types. You must answer the question 100% correctly to receive credit. This can be challenging but also means learning more from the experience.
Item Types 101
The new item types for MAS-I and MAS-II will test your skills in new and engaging ways—and might even be fun. Let's take a look at each new item type.
Multiple Selection
The Multiple Selection item type presents a question and a list of options. To answer the question, select all options that are correct. As we noted above, you will only receive credit if you select all of the correct options, so make sure to double-check your answer before submitting. This is the most straightforward of the new item types.
Fill in the Blank
In this item type, you will be presented with a question or expression with missing information. You will need to complete the item by providing the missing information. There may be rules or restrictions that you must follow, such as rounding or formatting. We will notify you if your answer is in the incorrect format and allow you to correct it.
Point and Click
This item type requires you to point and click on areas of an image that are relevant to the question. The image may vary in complexity and difficulty, depending on the question. For example, you may see a complicated Venn diagram and need to select the pieces that are relevant to the question.
Matching
The final item type, Matching, requires you to match items from a left-hand column to corresponding items in a right-hand column. You can match these items by clicking or dragging them, and you can move the items around as much as you want before submitting.
We believe these new item types will enhance your learning experience on Coaching Actuaries and help you feel even more confident for your exam. Give them a try and send us your feedback!
